Frequently Asked Questions

Can the damage be reversed?

Unfortunately not everything damaged by water can be restored. However, if the restoration process begins immediately, most items can typically be restored. The most important thing about water damage is to be pro-active and begin the drying process as soon as the damage has occurred. American Water Damage can, on average, restore the damage that is immediately discovered without repairs needed to the structure. If repairs are needed, though, we have the qualified personnel to get the job done.

Why should I clean my carpets?

There are several reasons to have your carpets professionally cleaned.  Here are just a few:

  • Extend the life of your carpet – Professionally cleaning your carpets removes the dirt and grime, which can build up and reduce the strength of the carpet fibers.  Cleaning them regularly can significantly lengthen the life of your carpets, saving you the money to replace them.
  • Health – The amount of bacteria and germs in your carpet will surprise you.  By cleaning them, you are removing this harmful bacteria that can cause serious health issues for all who come in contact with the carpet.
  • Appearance – Obviously having your carpets cleaned will make them look as good as new.  While extending the life of the carpet, you are also extending your enjoyment of their appearance, as stains and traffic patterns can be erased with a simple professional cleaning.

How often should I have my carpets cleaned?

Because of health concerns, the IIRC recommends the following guidelines for how often you should have your carpets cleaned.  Individual manufacturers may have their own guidelines, based on warranty requirements and suggestions.  Though all situations are different, review the chart to see what best meets your own needs.

How dangerous is mold caused by water damage?

While there is no concrete evidence as to the health concerns associated with mold, the topic has been the center of serious debate.  Though the health industry has no critical evidence on the matter, there is concern for how dangerous the mold spores can be.  However, the prevention of mold, and clean-up of the bacteria, should be taken seriously, as it may only be a matter of time before the evidence presents itself.
